Why Replacing Missing Teeth Matters

A gap is not only a cosmetic issue. When a tooth is missing, the teeth beside it and above it slowly drift into the space. Your bite changes, food gets trapped, and the remaining teeth take on more pressure. A partial denture holds everything in place and spreads the load of chewing more evenly.

Partial Dentures We Make in Guelph

Acrylic partial dentures

A pink acrylic base with replacement teeth and small wire clasps. They are economical, can be made relatively quickly and are easy to add a tooth to later. Many patients choose them as a first partial or while other treatment is being planned.

Cast metal partial dentures

Built on a thin, precise metal framework that rests on your natural teeth. They are lighter in the mouth, more stable when you chew and very durable, which makes them our usual recommendation for long-term use, especially for back teeth.

See a Partial Denture in Action

A partial denture is held by small clasps or rests on your own teeth. It slides in and out easily for cleaning, and stays secure when you talk and eat.

Because no two mouths are the same, we design the framework around the position and strength of your remaining teeth, aiming for clasps that are as discreet as possible, especially near your front teeth.

How We Design Your Partial Denture

Check your natural teeth

We examine the teeth that will support the partial. If one needs treatment first, we tell you and refer you.

Impressions & design

We plan where the clasps and rests go so the partial is stable without overloading any tooth.

Framework or wax try-in

For cast partials, we check the metal framework first, then the teeth, so the fit is precise.

Fitting & adjustments

We fit the partial, teach you to insert and remove it, and adjust it until it feels right.

Partial Dentures and the CDCP in Guelph

The Canadian Dental Care Plan covers acrylic partial dentures once per arch every 5 years and cast metal partials once per arch every 8 years. Both need preauthorization: we prepare and submit the request for you. Your share depends on your family income (100%, 60% or 40% paid by the CDCP), and we confirm it before starting.

Already Have a Partial?

If you lose another natural tooth, many acrylic partials can have a tooth added instead of being replaced. Broken clasps and cracks can often be fixed too. See denture repairs and relines in Guelph.

Caring for Your Partial Denture

  • Take it out to clean it, and brush your natural teeth well, especially the ones the clasps touch.
  • Use a soft denture brush and a non-abrasive cleaner, never regular toothpaste.
  • Insert it with your fingers; do not bite it into place, which can bend the clasps.

Partial Dentures in Guelph: Your Questions

Which is better, an acrylic or a cast metal partial?

Cast metal partials are thinner, more stable and more durable, so they are usually best for long-term use. Acrylic partials are more economical and easier to add teeth to.

Will people see the clasps?

We design clasps to be as discreet as possible. Near the front teeth we plan their position carefully so they show as little as possible.

Can a tooth be added to my partial if I lose another tooth?

Often yes, especially with acrylic partials. Bring your partial in and we will check.

Does the CDCP cover partial dentures in Guelph?

Yes, with preauthorization: acrylic partials every 5 years and cast metal partials every 8 years per arch. We handle the paperwork.
