Does your denture rub, hurt or make chewing uncomfortable? A soft liner adds a cushioned layer inside your denture that acts like a shock absorber for your gums. Ask Registered Denturist Enrique Parodi if it is right for you: (226) 898-3848.
A regular denture base is made of hard acrylic. A soft liner is a layer of medical-grade, flexible material added to the surface of the denture that sits on your gums. It cushions the pressure of chewing, so your gums take less stress and feel less sore.
Soft liners can be added to new complete dentures and, in many cases, to your existing denture during a reline.
| Soft liner | Hard acrylic base | |
|---|---|---|
| Comfort on sensitive gums | Cushioned, gentler | Firm |
| Best for | Sore, flat or bony ridges | Healthy, well-shaped ridges |
| Cleaning | Gentle brush and non-abrasive cleaner | Standard denture care |
| Maintenance | Checked regularly and renewed when worn | Relined as gums change |
In many cases, yes, during a reline. We check the condition of your denture first.
Soft liners are softer than acrylic and need to be renewed over time. We check yours at regular visits and renew it when needed.
A soft liner is fitted to the shape of your gums, so it improves both comfort and fit.
The CDCP covers relines and tissue conditioning every 24 months, so a soft reline may be covered. We check what the CDCP, your insurance or ODSP can cover at your consultation.
